Active Aeroelasticity and Rotorcraft Laboratory
Supervisor
Shin, Sang Joon
Research Area

In this laboratory, coupled analysis between structural and fluid dynamics is mainly conducted to analyze the aeroelastic characteristics of various vehicles, including turbomachinery. Regarding rotorcraft, CSD/CFD coupled analysis and multidisciplinary design optimization of the active rotor blade such as active trailing edge flaps are being studied. Regarding the fixed-wing aircraft, aeroelastic analysis for the mid/high-altitude unmanned vehicles is being studied. Recently, analysis and experiment for high speed vehicle and its launcher, space launch vehicle, insect-inspired flapping wing micro air vehicle are being conducted. Also, CFD/CSD coupled analysis for turbine blade, EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net(EDISON), rotor blade design and analysis for a delivery drone are being conducted.

Extreme Environments and Impact Lab.
Supervisor
Kim, Yun Ho
Research Area

The "Extreme Environments and Impact Lab" at Seoul National Univ. studies materials and structures under extreme conditions like space environments or hyper-velocity impact. They research new materials and designs to withstand or utilize these conditions, model and simulate extreme events, and test materials and structures. The lab's work could lead to new technologies and systems that operate effectively in extreme environments and improve safety and reliability of existing ones.
