KAIST 조정훈 학술상에 여재익 서울대 교수
한국과학기술원(KAIST)은 13일 'KAIST 조정훈 학술상' 시상식을 갖고 여재익(40) 서울대학교 기계항공공학부 교수에게 상을 수여했다. 여 교수는 국내 항공우주 고에너지 열유체역학 및 응용분야의 선구자로서 항공우주 추진분야의 고에너지 연료의 기초현상 연구, 레이저 조사시 방출되는 플라즈마를 활용한 우주자원 정밀탐사 및 충격파에 의한 무통증 약물투여 등 다양하게 확장된 연구분야를 소개해 공학을 의학 및 식품학에까지 접목시키는 안목을 보여줬다.
조정훈 장학생으로는 김경환(29.KAIST 항공우주공학과 박사과정), 이해아(25.고려대학교 기계공학과 석사과정)씨와 김홍찬(18.공주사대부고 3년)군이 선정되었고, 장학금이 지급되었다.
한편 'KAIST 조정훈 학술상'은 2003년 발생한 KAIST 추진 및 연소공학연구실 폭발사고로 숨진 고(故) 조정훈(당시 25세) 박사의 학문적 열정을 기리기 위해 고인의 부친인 조동길 공주대 국어교육학과 교수가 유족보상금 등에 사재를 합쳐 KAIST 학술기금으로 기부한 4억7천만원을 재원으로 해 제정된 상으로 2005년부터 해마다 항공우주공학 분야에서 연구업적이 뛰어난 젊은 과학자를 발굴해 시상하고 있다.
