5. 내 용 : This talk focuses on the numerical study using state-of-the-art CFD methods to reproduce TPS (Thermal Protection System) flight data for planetary entry probe vehicles. Computed results are shown for the Pioneer-Venus probe vehicles entered into Venusian atmosphere and the Galileo probe vehicle entered into Jovian atmosphere. For these probe vehicles, it is known from the flight data that anomalously higher aerodynamic heating occurred at the frustum region of sphere-cone geometry. The key role of turbulence effect due to ablation product gas in reproduction of flight data is discussed. In addition to aerodynamic heating problems, recent activities for developing high order CFD methods for unstructured meshes are presented.

Keisuke Sawada, currently Professor of Computational Aerodynamics Laboratory in Department of Aerospace Engineering at Tohoku University, received his B. Eng. and M. Eng. in Aerospace Engineering from Kyoto University in 1980 and 1982, respectively. In 1990, he joined in the faculty of Institute of Fluid Science, Tohoku University as a research associate. After receiving Ph.D. from Tohoku University in 1993, he then move to the graduate school of engineering, Tohoku University as an associate professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and then became a full professor in 1998. He has published more than 50 journal publications. He is a member of council board of Japan Society for Aeronautical and Space Sciences in 2008, and also an Associate Fellow of AIAA. He served as a chairman of the mechanical engineering group in Tohoku University in FY2006 and FY2007.
