5. 내  용 : When a symmetric structure or a system is subjected to symmetric loading, the symmetric response can become unstable leading to asymmetric responses. The occurrence of symmetry breaking bifurcation leads to complicated dynamic responses which often result in less desirable performances. I will present several examples of symmetry breaking bifurcation in fluids and mechanical systems. A MEMS capacitive power harvester will be used as an example demonstrating the onset of symmetry breaking. A Li-ion battery cell with parallel units will be used as another example to illustrate the possible occurrence of symmetry breaking in an electrochemical system.
