The seminar will focus on BOP (balance of plant) system which is indispensable to operate highly sophisticated fuel cells. First, the fundamental principle of fuel cells is explained. The fuel cell types and their pros and cons will be exposed. Here you could understand why PEMFC (proton exchange membrane fuel cell) and DMFC (direct methanol fuel cell) are being considered as portable fuel cells. Second, the BOP systems to operate PEMFC and DMFC will be introduced. The role of each component in BOP systems is explained in detail. Finally, the worldwide research trend for portable fuel cells and the current research works on BOP in KIST will be presented.
6. 연사약력 :
Dr. Kim received his BS from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea (1988) and his MS (1990) and PhD (1995) from KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Seoul, Korea. After working for Rutgers University as a Post-Doc (1995-1996), he has joined KIST since 1996. He is Chair of Electronics Cooling Committee of KSME (2004-2006). He holds 11 patents in Korea, Taiwan, Japan and USA. He has published 67 international journal and conference papers.
