Predictive modeling of turbulent combustion is important for the development of air-breathing engines, IC engines, furnaces and for power generation. Significant advances in modeling non-reactive turbulent flows are now possible with the development of Large Eddy Simulation (LES) in which the large energetic scales of the flow are resolved on the grid. However, since the interaction of turbulent mixing with the reactions occurs at the subgrid- and smallest resolved scales these processes still needs to be modeled in LES which thus constitute a great challenge not only for modelers but also for engineers using these models.
This talk will describe the use of combustion LES in predictive modeling of propulsion systems such as gas turbines, afterburners and ram- and scramjet engines, and will also aim at identifying some key research needs in order to help reach the ACARE ‘Vision 2020’ goals. Particular attention will thus be focused on the influence of the combustion chemistry, combustion oscillations and on emissions.
6. 약력 :
He was born in Helsingborg in 1964 and was awarded a MSc in Civil Engineering in 1989 and a PhD in Physics (in particular Combustion Physics) 1995 at Lund Institute of Technology. After that he spent two years at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College in London, UK. In 1997 he took up a position as researcher at the Swedish Defence Research Agency, FOI, at the Deptartment of Weapons & Protection. In 2002 he also became an Associate Professor in Fluid Mechanics at Lund Institute of Technology, and was appointed Director of Research in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Combustion at FOI. He is a member of the Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and is also member of the Combustion Institute.
