[기계전공대학원세미나](3월 24일)Cross-scale engineering of nano and microstructures
3월 27일(금)의 세미나가 3월 24일(화)에 301동 102호에서 다음과 같이 진행됩니다.
1. 제 목: Cross-scale engineering of nano and microstructures:
Supercomputing simulations and Scale-bridging experiments
2. 연 사: Prof. Kyung-Suk Kim (Division of Engineering, Brown University)
3. 일 시: 2009년 3월 24일 (화) 16:30 - 17:30
4. 장 소: 서울대 신공학관 301동 102호
5. 내 용:
It has passed already sometime that engineering community began to develop and enhance capabilities of technological devices and systems based on nano and microstructures. New discoveries and new inventions have emerged in cross-scale engineering of nano and microstructures using supercomputing simulations and scale-bridging experiments.
In this talk, discovery of a new mechanism in carbon nano tube fracture, atom shooting fracture, and its potential impact will be introduced first. The discovery is based on large-scale supercomputing simulations of carbon nanotube fracture processes in sonication and corresponding scale bridging experiments. In addition, some scientific inventions in scale bridging experiments at the nano and micro scales will be introduced together with their potential applications in areas of current societal needs, such as energy, health and environmental engineering.
