[기계] Professor Reza Abhari 세미나 개최
1. 연 사 : Professor Reza Abhari (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich)
2. 제 목 : Future Research Challenges in Wind Energy
3. 일 시 : 2010 년 5월 4일 (화) 11:00~12:00
4. 장 소 : 신공학관 301동 117호
5. 내 용 :
Wind energy is currently going through a transformative expansion in response to the societal need for clean energy while enhancing security of supply. While the roots of wind energy go back a long time, these new classes of machines providing low cost electricity are complex, requiring a high level of integration and technological development. In addition, utility class wind farms need careful design and integration with the complex terrain and atmospheric flow boundary conditions. Given the complexities of geophysical flows and the response of the wind turbines to them, there is a significant risk of variability of output performance of wind turbines relative to the design intent. These uncertainties result in financial risks for the wind park developers, investors and utilities.
In the present lecture, a summary of selected activities of Laboratory for Energy Conversion of ETH Zurich is presented. Then the 4 distinct research activities related to the wind energy research are described in greater detail. Firstly, full-scale flow field measurements around actual wind turbines are studied using an instrumented uninhabited aerial vehicle (UAV). A sub scale water-towing tank is used to provide controlled laboratory scale experiments to study detail flow structure and the interaction of turbulence and gusts on the performance of the machines. Using an immersed boundary method formulation, computational fluid dynamics tools are used to predict atmospheric flows around complex terrain with subsequent coupling to an array of wind turbines. By considering infrastructural constraints, an econometric computational tool is used to identify and optimize the location of wind turbines while calculating economic returns.
