Hello, everyone!
I’m Professor Kim, Hyoun Jin, the head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering
in the College of Engineering at Seoul National University.
Welcome to the official website of the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
Hello, everyone!
I’m Professor Yoh, Jai Ick, the head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering at Seoul National University.
Welcome to the official website of the Department of Aerospace Engineering.
The aerospace technology, which has been developed internationally after the Cold War, has not only increased the convenience of the humankind by combining the globe into a one-day life zone but also accomplished rapid advancements by extending the interests of the humankind even to the outside of our planet. Rockets and satellites have strategic importance and are used as a means of boasting the superiority of a country’s technology and ideology.

In tandem with this progress, South Korea has recently launched the space vehicle NARO and developed Korean customized helicopters and next-generation combat planes, opening the era of an aerospace power with the specialized and systematic expertise in the relevant fields.

In addition, the aerospace industry is critical to not only the national security but also the overall economy of Korea as a high value-added industry. Recently, through the convergence with Nano-Technology (NT) and Bio-Technology (BT), the aerospace industry is creating innovative research areas and making a new start as a renewed industry.

In line with the development of the next-generation demand industry, the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University is studying and teaching the fundamental and advanced engineering and technology for the system analysis and design of atmospheric vehicles, such as airplanes and helicopters, and space vehicles, such as Korean launch vehicles and satellites. Since its establishment in 1946, the Department of Aerospace Engineering has fostered creative human resources with the comprehensive and professional leadership that is necessary in the development of the aerospace system in Korea.
Our Department, consisting of 15 full-time faculty members who are equipped with the world-class educational and research capabilities, is devoted to the research and education of the world’s best level in various areas, including aerodynamics, propulsion and combustion, guidance, navigation and control (GNC), structure, and material applications. The Department is responding to the domestic and international expectation of fostering human resource throughout different areas of the aerospace research by providing the newest research facilities and educational environments.

The graduates from the Department are playing the essential roles in the aerospace field of Korea, as they are working in various institutions, including the government, government-funded research institutes, and private companies.

Thanks to the support from our community, the all the members of the Department, including the professors and students, are making best efforts in the education and research to form more advanced education environments and foster the human resources who will play pivotal roles in the future aerospace industry.

We sincerely welcome you to our Department, and ask for your continuous interests and encouragement for us so that we can make more progress to have the world’s highest competitiveness in all the areas of the education and research. Thank you very much.
