A 10% reduction in loss in turbomachinery components can yield up
to 4.3% reduction in fuel burn or 30 deg. C reduction in hot-section
temperature. This presentation will focus on the aerodynamic design
and development of efficient commercial fans and compressors at GE
Aviation in the last fifteen years. Topics discussed will include the
development of the GE90 fan, counter-rotating fan design research,
casing treatment for compression components, high stage loading
compressor research, flow control research and compressor stability
management in aircraft engines.
