Principal Investigator in Engine Combustion Research. Combustion research of fuel sprays in a constant-volume, high-pressure, high-temperature vessel. Working collaboratively with research directors from major automotive companies including Caterpiller, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Ford, GM, and Chrysler. Using optical diagnostics to study combustion and soot formation at low-flame-temperature, low-emissions conditions.

Fundamental study in mixing and combustion in a reacting mixing layer, involving planar laser-induced fluorescence and laser-induced incandescnece. Species studied include CH, OH, and non-reacting passive scalar measurements of mixture fraction through acetone seeded to the freestream.
