Manufacturing Knowledge in Transit
Manufacturing Knowledge in Transit: A History of the Semiconductor Industry in the U.S. and Japan
Hyungsub Choi)
- The Johns Hopkins University
- Georgia Institute of Technology
5. 요약
The semiconductor industry has been at the forefront of high-technology manufacturing since its inception in the late 1940s. From a fragile piece of laboratory prototype in late 1947, semiconductor technology has grown into a multi-billion dollar global industry spanning many countries in several continents. The aim of this presentation is to trace the trajectory of the industry from the perspective of the circulation of technical knowledge between the United States and Japan. I will show that there have been several different vehicles of manufacturing knowledge circulation-paper, people, and machine-depending on the techno-economic circumstances surrounding the two countries.
