[WCU] Distinguished Lecture Series
1.제 목 : Extraordinary Behaviors of Ordinary Materials
2.연 사 : Prof. Min Zhou
3.일 시 : 2010년 4월 7일 (수) 16:00-17:30
4.장 소 : 61동 320호
5.연사 약력 :
Professor of Materials Science and engineering and Mechanical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology
B.S. Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Institute, 1982
M.S. Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 1986
Sc.M. Brown University, 1990
Ph.D. Brown University, 1993
6.내용 요약 :
Ordinary materials can exhibit extraordinary behaviors. In low-dimensional forms such as nanowires and nanofilms, metals can exhibit shape memory and ceramics can exhibit significant ductility. Also at the nanoscale, material responses such as heat conduction, mass transport and mechanical deformation can influence each other in ways they do not at higher scales. These unusual attributes were previously unknown and can be used in a wide range of novel applications such as energy harvesting/storage and sensing/actuation. This presentation will offer insights gained in studying several such interesting materials and the physical mechanisms that make them different when their sizes are made small.
